University of Manchester China Centre Alumni Healthcare Club Spring Festival Tea Party is scheduled to take place on Saturday Jan. 26th 2019.
Currently, over 30% of the alumni of UoM China Centre come from the healthcare industry. It has been five years since the healthcare club was established in 2014, and has held lots of events. As the whole healthcare industry faced an important year of policy reform in 2018, our club invites all healthcare alumni to gather together and talk about important policy issues during the past year, together with professor Zhang, who is a famous healthcare information analyst. In 2019, UoM China Centre launches “International Healthcare Leadership Programme”. Let's hear from UoM alumnus D. Jian Li on AI application in healthcare. Furthermore, we are so happy to welcome new committee member. Please save the date and take this opportunity to join us for a new start, a new journey!
Topic 1: 2018 pharmaceutical industry development status and major hot events interpretation
The Chinese pharmaceutical industry has gone through a very extraordinary year in 2018. Many policies have been issued frequently, such as the institutional reform of ministries and commissions, 4+7 purchasing with volume, the new version of the basic medicine catalogue, and the adjustment of the deadline for consistency evaluation, which will have a profound impact on the industry.
The growth rate of the pharmaceutical industry is higher than that of GDP, and the proportion of pharmaceutical industry in the national industry is increasing continuously, which reflects the "sunrise" attribute of the industry.
China's pharmaceutical market has entered a period of rational growth. The growth rate of sales revenue of public hospitals in large and medium-sized cities has declined obviously, and more sales are diverted to the second and third market terminals. From the perspective of market segmentation in the field of treatment (such as anti-cancer), there are still huge rigid opportunities, which deserve further cultivation.
This talk will interpret industry data and major events to explore the future direction of industrial development.
Topic 2: AI for Med, AI for Good
Artificial intelligence (AI)is transforming every industry, but the role it will play in healthcare is profound. The great benefit of AI for healthcare is the democratization of knowledge, technology, analytics, products and services. AI can provide more wisdom of experience to people about health, complex diseases, diagnosis and treatments, and the outcomes that are achieved. Dr. Li Jian, China Head of IoT Health in Intel, will introduce the value of AI for Health, the current status and challenges of AI applications in Healthcare, and the future trends e.g. edge computing and precision medicine, etc.
