Alumni Dialogue with Young Scholars: Complexity in Platform and Ecological Research

Platform strategy in the consumer Internet is heated discussed, but in the industrial Internet in various industries face great difficulties. This is the result of a mismatch between strategy and environment. How to solve this problem? On Dec. 29th, we have invited Hong Hou, University of Cambridge PhD candidate with rich experience in the industry to talk about the upgrading of strategic thinking from industrial platform to ecological strategy in the Internet era. UoM alumni Dr. Weixu Ding, Mr. Allen Mao and  Ms. Tracy Liu will participate in the sub-topics’ discussion. The important dimension of ecological thinking is complexity, and how does complexity combine with strategic management? According to the classic strategic thinking of "organization follows strategy, strategy adapts to environment", Hong Hou puts forward a triangular framework: complex strategy and complex effect in complex environment. Based on rigorous academic achievements, he will discuss the essential differences between platform thinking and ecological thinking, and propose new ideas for understanding platforms and new models for promoting industrial digital transformation through platforms.
