UoM Alumni visited AZ China Healthcare IoT Innovation Center

On 15th Nov., 2019, University of Manchester China Centre Director Ms. Sherry Fu led an alumni delegation to visit AstraZeneca in Wuxi. Global MBA Accelerated Program alumni Mr Vincent Xu, Associate BRM director of Digital & Commercial Innovation Department guided the 2-hour exclusive tour of AstraZeneca China on site, followed by Centre news sharing from China Centre Director Ms Sherry Fu.

About 10 alumni from the region attended, experiencing an exclusive peek into AstraZeneca China Healthcare Internet of Things Innovation Center. Mr Vincent Xu, Associate BRM director of Digital & Commercial Innovation Department warmly welcomed visiting fellow alumni. AstraZeneca China Healthcare Internet of Things Innovation Center is the first healthcare innovative collaboration platform established by a pharmaceutical company in June 2017 together with cross-sector partners from the government, industry, academia, research institutes and medical institutions. Today, there’re about 14 innovative holistic disease management solutions developed in main therapy areas in China including respiratory, cardiovascular, metabolic, oncology, renal and gastrointestinal diseases.

Ms Sherry Fu, Director of the University of Manchester China Centre said, “Since our Centre establishment a decade ago, we have been thriving to cooperate with multinational enterprises in formulation of tailored talent development schemes through strategic management partnerships and that with AstraZeneca China goes way back to the year of 2011. Our deepening corporate ties with long-term partners such as AZ China have accelerated Centre’e growth and in turn contributed to our increasingly growing alumni community.”

Alumni enjoyed immersive and interactive experiences through which the latest innovative practices of smart healthcare such as scenario simulation were learnt. One alumnus commented at the end of tour: “Illustrated and explained in easy language, this tour provides me with a better understanding of different holistic disease management solutions of integrated diagnosis and treatment.”
