Director of UoM China Centre on Global Talent Development

On 14 September, Sherry Fu, Director of The University of Manchester China Centre, was invited to attend the Forum on Global Talent Development in China, co-organised by the Center for China and Globalization (CCG) - Yangtze River Delta Research Center and Tonglu Government Organization Department.

Fu presented in the panel discussion as a representative of the higher education sector and exchanged views on various topics regarding the development of Global talents in China under a new era with experts in the International Education sector.

Fu firstly expressed her appreciation to Mr Huiyao Wang, Founder and President of CCG, a distinguished alumnus of the University of Manchester who was awarded PhD degree in 2006. CCG, after 15 years of development, is now a well-recognized Chinese think tank with a global reputation.

During the panel, Ms. Fu mentioned that the blueprint for global talent development in higher education should be forward-looking, systematic, and sustainable. It’s a full picture from the top-down strategy and mindsets of decision-makers to the detailed teaching and learning implementation.

Ms. Fu also emphasized the purpose of the University of Manchester: To advance education, knowledge, and wisdom for the good of society. With this mission, The University pioneered the establishment of global Centres, developing online and blended learning systems, and breaking the barriers to bring premium learning opportunities to the whole world.

Under the new era of China’s development, the localization of global talent become another critical issue. On top of the global perspective, Fu also shared her insights on how to integrate local elements into international education in China. From the experience of UoM China Centre’s endeavour for more than 14 years, Fu concluded that the key point o is to provide a platform of exchange ideas and develop a sustainable and strategic long-term system of talent cultivation.
