This week, The University of Manchester (UoM) China Centre has welcomed the region’s new cohort of students onto the MSc Financial Management. Students from different cities across China joined this blended-learning course, which they will complete on a part-time basis over the next two years with workshops in Shanghai.
The part-time and flexible study format has encouraged a dives range of student to apply from a wide range of regions with different motivations to study.
The course has recruited students with varying levels of professional experience, from recent graduates looking to kick-start their careers, to established managers, with over 64% bringing between 12-28 years of experience to the course.
They are all actively working within a wide range of positions, such as: Vice President, Finance Director, General Manager, Investment Director, and Department Manager. The blend of both mature, highly accomplished professionals and less experienced, younger professionals results in a dynamic and rewarding learning environment, bringing together a diversity of global perspectives.
The diverse cohort also brings together professionals from a variety of industries including banking, finance, healthcare, consulting, technology and education industry, which enriches and elevates the student learning experience. This provides opportunities to network, share best practice and knowledge across industries, which accelerates students’ growth in a supportive and mutually-beneficial environment.

Ahead of their 24-months study journey, Ms. Sherry Fu, UoM China Centre Director pointed out that: "We are delighted that the University continues to attract high caliber working professionals in China to join MSc Financial Management. Many of our students are preparing and positioning themselves as finance leaders. We aim to help more working professionals build sustainable careers."
MSc Financial Management will help learners achieve further career progression by equipping them with the financial management knowledge and skills sought by organisations worldwide.
The new students also shared their expectations and goals for the next two years at the beginning of their learning journey.

The course has a part-time flexible, blended structure, with teaching and assessments predominantly delivered online, supplemented with workshops held twice a year online or in Shanghai.
The first workshop covers ‘Foundations of Accounting’ and ‘Foundations of Finance’, delivered in a blended format. The students have successfully adapted, and completed group work highly effectively, using online video meetings throughout the workshop.
