On 2 November 2022, the British Chamber of Commerce in China held the Gala Dinner & Awards Ceremony of the British Business Awards 2022 at The InterContinental Beijing Sanlitun.
The University of Manchester China Centre is proud to support the 2022 British Business Awards as a sponsor for the Chinese Investor in the UK Award. We are glad to celebrate organisations and individuals who are achieving outstanding results, and who demonstrate the highest level of commitment to Sino-British trade and investment relations across a variety of disciplines in China.
The BBAs are national awards to recognise and promote excellence in innovation, enterprise and endeavour in the British business community in China, and celebrate the ever-growing trade and investment relations between China and the UK. After months of applications, evaluation and interviews, awards winners in all eight categories were announced at the Gala Dinner last night. These are all key areas of UK-China collaboration.
Geraldine McCafferty, Deputy Head of Mission from the British Embassy Beijing presented the winner of the Chinese Investor in the UK Award on Ms Sherry Fu's behalf.
Established in 2008, the biennial British Business Awards are a prestigious feature of the business calendar, serving as testimony to the depth, breadth and success of British businesses operating in China, as well as recognising the excellent achievements of Chinese businesses operating in the UK.
Over 100 inspiring submissions to the British Business Awards were received, from organisations with over a hundred years' history in China, to small start-ups founded by Chinese entrepreneurs who benefitted from a UK education. Applications were evaluated by a panel of expert independent judges for each award category, with the judging process overseen by KPMG as the auditor, ensuring the process is fair, transparent and impartial.
Speaking via video link, Dame Caroline Wilson DCMG, British Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, commented: “This year has not been an easy one for British businesses operating in China or for Chinese businesses in the UK. Yet despite ongoing pandemic restrictions, and geopolitical tensions, it’s inspiring to hear the stories of the finalists tonight and to recognise the depth and resilience of our economic, business and cultural ties.”
His Excellency Zheng Zeguang, Chinese Ambassador to the UK, also spoke via video link on the importance of continued UK-China trade and relations, reflecting that: “China welcomes more quality products from the UK and more cooperation in such areas as healthcare, green developments, digital economy, financial service, and innovation. I hope that entrepreneurs from both China and the UK will continue to work with tenacity and a pioneering spirit; champion open, innovative and shared developments; and create new highlights of cooperation for mutual benefit.”
Ms. Sherry Fu, Founding Director of the University of Manchester China Centre said:
Upon the arrival of the 15th anniversary of The University of Manchester China Centre, we will continue to support Sino-UK educational and cultural exchanges and business cooperation.
