China Centre Continues to Promote China-UK Educational Exchange

On the afternoon of May 12, 2023, the University of Manchester China Centre was invited to participate in the Achieve UK-China Schools Network Day held by Achieve Education Group in Shanghai and signed an MoU on Cooperation. In the future, the two sides will have the opportunities to cooperate in summer schools, teacher training and curriculum promotion, providing high-quality international education for more students and teachers in the region. Jiang Haishan, President of the International Education Association Shanghai (IEAS), Li Weiping, Secretary-General of IEAS; Sohail Shaikh, Minister Counsellor of the British Department for Business and Trade (DBT); Liu Jing, Deputy Director of Education, Creative, Retail and Sports (China) of the DBT, Su Si, Head of Education (China) of DBT; Catherine Sinclair-Jones, Area Director of East China of Culture and Education of British Council, Cultural and Education Consul of the British Consulate General in Shanghai; Wu Zijian, former president of YK Pao School attended the event and delivered speeches.

Sherry Fu, Founding Director of the University of Manchester China Centre, was invited to deliver a speech. She recounted the establishment of the Manchester Business School China Centre in 2008 and its subsequent renaming to the University of Manchester China Centre in 2016, with the esteemed presence of Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor of UoM. Carried the China Centre's responsibility in fostering collaboration and communication between the university, Chinese universities, government, and businesses, Ms. Fu highlighted that the China Centre has not only promoted and supported the university's blended part-time Master's programmes, but has also actively engaged in cultural, educational, and commercial exchanges between China and the UK over the past fifteen years. Through organizing a series of social responsibility events, the China Centre has led nearly 40,000 Manchester alumni in China to actively contribute to China's economic development, support local growth, and serve society.

Fu also expressed her delight in the presence of numerous international education experts, including two outstanding Manchester alumni who currently serve as principals of international schools in Guangdong. All the guests expressed their utmost support for the event and welcomed future collaboration opportunities, aiming to contribute to China-UK educational exchanges.
