22 March | Join the Talk: Xiaomi's Automotive Venture

In today’s fast-paced market, product innovation is at the heart of a company’s competitive advantage. However, innovation is not an abstract concept; it must be grounded in a deep understanding of user needs. Xiaomi’s expansion into the automotive industry, as a leading technology giant venturing into a new sector, presents an excellent case study on the pivotal role of user insights in driving product innovation.

Renowned for its “Born for Fever” ethos, Xiaomi has built a vast user base and gained extensive market experience through its success in the smartphone and smart home industries. When Xiaomi announced its entry into the automotive sector, both the market and consumers responded with curiosity and anticipation. Every step of Xiaomi’s automotive journey has captured industry attention, with a key question at its core: How can user insights shape the product innovation process?

Alliance Manchester Business School has been a pioneer in experiential learning since the 1960s, when our academics developed the distinctive "Manchester Method." This interactive case study approach, similar to Harvard Business School’s "Case Method," emphasises group work, practice-based learning, and reflection.

On 22nd March, Dr Zhao Ying, Editor-in-Chief of WhichMBA.net, will lead a case study workshop at the University of Manchester China Centre. This session will explore Xiaomi’s automotive venture, examining how user insights have influenced its product innovation strategy.

Dr. Zhao Ying is a certified Level II National Psychological Counselor and holds a Harvard University Higher Education Teaching Certificate. She earned her Doctorate in Business Administration from emlyon business school in France and holds a Master’s degree in Media Management from the University of Stirling in the UK.
