In recent years, AI has advanced at an unprecedented pace, rapidly transforming finance, business, and everyday life. From accessing information to making investment decisions, AI is reshaping the way we understand the world and make decisions. As its capabilities continue to evolve, it also raises an important question about the boundary between human judgement and technology: in the age of AI, where can we rely on AI, and where do human judgements remain essential?

The same question lies at the heart of financial investment. Whether we are making decisions in the capital markets or navigating our own career paths, we are constantly faced with uncertainty. Beyond discussing how we invest in an industry or a technology, we also want to explore a broader question: if life itself is a long-term investment, how should we make our choices?

On the evening of 15 October, join us at the University of Manchester China Centre for a conversation with bankers and professors. Starting from financial investment, we will explore the new opportunities and challenges that AI is bringing to the industry, and reflect on a deeper question: in a rapidly changing AI-driven world, how should we invest in our own future?

Prof. Malcolm Smith Visiting Professor, Alliance Manchester Business School Former CEO of Major International Corporations

Professor Malcolm Smith is a Visiting Professor at Alliance Manchester Business School, where he teaches on the MBA programme. He brings over 25 years of practical experience across venture capital, private equity and turnaround situations. He brings extensive industry expertise as a former CEO and entrepreneur and currently holds board positions in several industries. A seasoned negotiator with extensive international business experience, Professor Smith holds a degree from Alliance Manchester Business School and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Mira Jiang Founder, MIRASIRIUS Capital Former A-share sponsor representative UoM Alumna

Mira, former A-share sponsor representative, with over 16 years’ experience in investment banking and related fields, and more than 10 years’ experience as a sponsor representative for A-shares, previously served as an Executive Director at Zhongtai Securities, during which time she acted as a licensed representative for Type 1 and Type 6 regulated activities in Hong Kong. She possesses experience in team building and management, business development and the execution of complex transactions, with her practice covering domestic and overseas listings, refinancing, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate capital operations. She is currently focused on early-stage investment in the fields of AI and embodied intelligence. Mira holds a Bachelor‘s degree in accounting and finance from the University of Manchester and a Master’s degree in finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Kenneth Goh Director, Private Wealth Management at UOB Kay Hian, Singapore UoM Alumnus

Kenneth Goh is the director of private wealth management at UOB Kay Hian, serves high-net-worth clients and their advisory teams across Asia. He brings over 20 years of experience in wealth management, having previously held positions at HSBC, Bank of Singapore, Citibank and UOB. Kenneth is also an active financial commentator, with a particular interest in technology, financial markets, the Chinese economy and behavioural finance. He regularly shares insights on market trends and economic developments from a range of perspectives and is the author of the Applied Mind Letter column. Kenneth holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School.
