On a rainy Saturday morning, a CSR-focused alumni talk and networking took place at Boyu, a co-living space in Central Beijing. The event was organized by the University of Manchester China Centre and hosted by Ms. Sherry Fu, Director of China Centre. As an ice breaker, a round of self-introduction was held where alumni and students shared their fields of industry and interested areas of work. Many reflected on and expressed appreciation of their studying journey at the University and the China Centre and their hopes to continue studying.
Ms. Sherry Fu welcomed all attendees and introduced the University of Manchester Worldwide and the wide range of offerings at the China Centre, including the newly launched MSc International Healthcare Leadership part-time programme for healthcare leaders. Ms. Fu cordially invites attendees to participate in various kinds of alumni events and activities organized by the China Centre, especially the China Centre 10th Anniversary Alumni Gala Dinner 2018 & Sino-UK Creative Economy Forum on September 26th in Shanghai. Both advocates for helping others and making a better world, the two alumni speakers shared with audience their journey devoting to charity work and founding NGO organization. Ms. Miao Wang, holding a Master’s Degree in International Development at the University of Manchester, is the founder of Better Blue. Having tremendously rich field experience in Nature conservation and biodiversity protection, Ms. Wang didn’t however study relevant majors. And yet her passion for diving and environment protection eventually made her the chief representative of Project AWARE Greater China and Chinese Ambassador of iSeahorse citizen-science program. Ms. Wang revealed the reality of water environment, and especially biodiversity protection and invites alumni and their friends and family to become citizen ambassadors for environmentally friendly behaviors.
The second speaker Ms. Krystal Yu, a GMBA alumnua, introduced to audience her newly founded organization Behappy, which aims at helping people achieving healthy love relationships through technological application which is embodied with scientifically proven theories and practices. In particular, Ms. Yu gave specific examples to illustrate why traditional marriage wisdom is wrong and listed several principles to have healthy love relationship. Because the majority of attendees were females, Ms. Yu also gave advice from a female prospective and emphasized the importance of healthy happy relationships.
After the 2-hour talk, the China Centre invited alumni for lunch at a Beijing Cuisine Restaurant nearby.
