On 30 July, the 2024 British Business Awards (BBA) officially launched at the British Chambers of Commerce Shanghai. The University of Manchester (UoM) China Centre, a sixth-time sponsor of the British Business Awards, was invited to join the launch event. Mr. Sohail Shaikh, Deputy HM Trade Commissioner, John McLean OBE, Chair of China UK Business, Development Centre, Chair of IoD City of London, Senior Advisor of CCCUK, Ms. Sherry Fu, Managing Director of UoM China Centre were invited as guest speakers of the launch event.

During the event, BBA organisers, partners, and a lead judge for this year outlined the scope of the award categories, the process, and the timeline. They also shared insights for companies looking to enter. Ms. Sherry Fu, Managing Director of UoM China Centre, delivered a speech highlighting the centre's ongoing commitment to business growth and innovation. She stated:

“Since the inception of The University of Manchester China Centre in 2008, our commitment to supporting and promoting business growth and innovation aligns perfectly with the ethos of the British Business Awards. By sponsoring the awards, we are celebrating the achievements of those who have excelled in their respective fields and highlighting the vital role that academia plays in fostering economic development. As a university with a strong international presence, we are happy to support events that bring together businesses worldwide. This platform allows us to demonstrate our commitment to international collaboration, partnership, and attracting international talents.”

Kirsten Johnston, Chair of the British Chamber of Commerce Shanghai and Founder & CEO of JWDK, announced the return of the British Business Awards in 2024. She emphasised the importance of Sino-British corporate and cultural collaboration, especially in light of recent challenges. She encouraged outstanding companies and individuals to participate and showcase their talents, highlighting the nine award categories which include leadership, partnership, innovation, education, social impact, sustainability, and commercial endeavours.

The British Business Awards, organised by the British Chambers of Commerce in China, aim to recognise and promote excellence in innovation, enterprise, and endeavour within both the British and Chinese business communities. The biennial awards have become a prestigious feature of the business calendar, showcasing organisations and individuals committed to trade and investment in China. The awards will be presented at a Gala Dinner on 21st November 2024 in Shanghai.

Britain's reputation for business excellence, world-class production, innovation, and market leadership across various industries continues to be recognised in China.
