This trip to China marks Professor Duncan Ivison's first official overseas visit since assuming the post of President and Vice-Chancellor of the University in 2024.
The event witnessed a remarkable turnout with about 500 alumni in attendance in Beijing and Shanghai. The delegation from Manchester, Ms Sherry Fu, Director of UoM China Centre and representatives from The University of Manchester Alumni Associations participated in this grand event.
During the receptions, Professor Ivison delivered an inspiring speech. He began by expressing his gratitude to the alumni for their significant contributions to the University's development.

Professor Ivison also introduced the University of Manchester's 2035 Strategy, emphasizing the goals of enhancing student experience, accelerating research impact, and advancing social responsibility. He called on alumni to continue their involvement as “Mancunians” and actively participate in the University's future development.
Ms. Sherry Fu, Director of UoM China Centre, hosted the receptions in Beijing and Shanghai. She shared the development journey of the China Centre over the past 17 years and expressed gratitude for the alumni's support in this process. She emphasized that the Centre will continue to support Manchester alumni in China with lifelong learning, career development, and networking opportunities.

The successful hosting of these alumni receptions not only provided a platform for alumni interaction and networking but also demonstrated the University of Manchester's global influence. The visit of the President and Vice Chancellor reinforced the alumni's connection with UoM, inspiring them to continue contributing as “Mancunians” and helping to write a new chapter in the University's global education and research endeavors.
