On 4 December, Ms. Sherry Fu, Founding Director of the University of Manchester China Centre, and her delegation were invited to visit Chengdu Longquanyi Beanstalk School (BIBS Chengdu). Mr. Graham Turner, Foreign Head of Schools, hosted the reception and extended a warm welcome to the delegation.
Accompanied by Mr. Turner, the delegation conducted a tour of the school's modern teaching facilities, and held in-depth discussions regarding the current development of international education in Chengdu, exchanging insights on topics such as the school growth, student demographics, integrated educational philosophy, and diverse university pathways of international bilingual schools within the current landscape.
Mr. Turner specifically noted that the University of Manchester has always been an aspirational destination for BIBS students, with outstanding graduates gaining admission each year. He revealed that among the school's senior cohort, over 70% of students include the University of Manchester as one of their preferred choices in university applications, fully underscoring the institution's exceptional reputation and appeal amongst both staff and students.
During the visit, the UoM China Centre team met with students in Grades 9 to 11. The team provided a detailed introduction to the University's academic strengths, campus life, programme options, and key application information. The session was dynamic, with students actively posing questions and engaging in thorough discussion regarding their fields of interest and preparations for overseas study.
The Centre team also introduced the University's part-time MA in Educational Leadership in Practice programme to the faculty and staff at BIBS Chengdu, which is tailored for international education professionals based in China. Ms. Fu and Mr. Turner concurred that the continuous professional development of educators is crucial for both personal career advancement and the enhancement of school management and sustainable growth.
