Professor Clive Agnew’s first Visit to Overseas UMW Centre

On 14th November, Professor Clive Agnew, Vice President for Teaching, Learning and Students of  the University of Manchester visited The University of Manchester China Centre, the first University of Manchester Worldwide (UMW) overseas Centre. Joining the Professor was Professor Elaine Ferneley, Director of UMW, Mr. Richard Cotton, Head of Student Recruitment and Outreach and Ms. Sherry Fu, China Centre Director.

The group visited Ministry of Education (MoE) in Beijing during the visit to discuss how The University of Manchester could act with a stronger positive influence in the activities in China.

Part of the work that the University has been doing is forming and maintaining cooperative relations with local Partners.  Shanghai Tongji University has long been in a firm mutually beneficial relationship with UoM. Manchester Global MBA Project Pathway is jointly delivered by the two Partners. The group had a formal meeting with Professor Chen Song, Deputy of School of Economics and Management (SEM) at Shanghai Tongji University.

Formerly Manchester Business Worldwide Co. Ltd, the new entity as University of Manchester Worldwide Co. Ltd was formed on 1st August this year. Professor Elaine Ferneley was appointed as Director of UMW. China Centre was first established in 2008 and became the first Centre to be renamed by Professor Dame Nancy Rothwell, President and Vice-Chancellor in September 2016.

Currently at China Centre, a list of University Of Manchester Porgrammes is being supported. This includes Manchester Global MBA, Tongji-Manchester Global MBA and Kelley-Manchester Global MBA.  A doctorate programme in Business Administration is also being jointly delivered with Shanghai Jiao Tong University in addition to the Masters courses. To enrich the University’s offerings, a list of other courses both online and blended is anticipated to be incorporated into the current selections.
