MA Educational Leadership in Practice

Course Overview

As one of the oldest educational institutions in the UK, the Manchester Institute of Education has been ranked 6th in the UK and 31st in the 2021 QS Global University Discipline Rankings.

To benefit education administrators and future leaders from different countries and regions, the University of Manchester China Centre has launched the part-time Master of Arts course in Educational Leadership.

This course will build your intellectual and practical confidence in all interactions; with teachers, parents, students, managers, board members and policymakers, to engage at a higher level and influence change.

Course Learning Aims

The aim of the MA is to equip you with the skills and knowledge that educators and other similar education practitioners require for a successful career in your education organisations.

The Educational Leadership in Practice course provides current and aspiring educational leaders with the opportunity to step outside of your practice bubble and reflect on your professional roles through a range of different lenses.

Admission Information

Entry requirements:

Degree & GPA

  • A good honours degree (minimum 2:1) or the overseas equivalent.
  • An initial qualification in teaching, or at least one year's professional experience in a public or private educational organisation, are desirable but not essential requirements.
  • Applicants with a 2:2 will be considered if they have at least three years teaching experience
  • Please Provide 1 satisfactory professional or academic reference and a copy of your CV detailing your full work experience. You will also need to provide a personal statement (approx. 500 words) detailing why you're interested in studying on the course.

English Language

  • IELTs 6.5 Overall with 6.0 in listening, reading and speaking, no less than 6.5 in writing.
  • TOEFL internet-based test score of 90 or more overall, with a minimum of 22 in the writing component and no other subsection below 20.
  • Pearson Versant English Placement Test (VEPT), supplemented with a University of Manchester short written test administered by the University Language Centre: Minimum VEPT overall score: 56 or above, with a minimum of 56 in the writing component and no other component scores below 51.

Tuition Fee:

  • The Tuition Fee for September 2025 intake is GBP 17,000 (MA) / GBP 5,667 (PGCert), payable in instalments.
